ABOUT
Eleni Markopoulos is an alternative process-led artist, blending new technologies with traditional photographic methods. In a world increasingly shaped by digital media, her commitment to hands-on experimentation and craftsmanship reaffirms the enduring value of physical processes. Drawing inspiration from the early pioneers of pictorialism, her work seeks to elevate the everyday, capturing moments that evoke a quiet, timeless beauty.
Influenced by anemoia - a wistful yearning for a time never experienced - Markopoulos’ photography transcends the immediate present, inviting viewers into a space where the boundaries between memory and imagination blur. Each image is a careful interplay of light, texture and form, transforming fleeting scenes into evocative compositions that resonate with a sense of history and emotion.
Her practice is rooted in the belief that, despite the rapid evolution of visual technology, there remains an intrinsic value in the tangible and tactile. By merging the precision of new technology with the richness of traditional techniques, Markopoulos creates photographs that are not only images but crafted objects - testaments to the beauty found in both the past and the present.
